Sen. Gounardes & AM Reyes: To Keep Our Communities Safe, We Need the Full ‘New York For All’ Act

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: APRIL 16, 2026

New York State Senator Andrew Gounardes and Assembly Member Karines Reyes issued the following statement today in response to Governor Kathy Hochul’s immigration announcement:

“ICE’s oppressive deportation dragnet is ripping apart families and killing innocent people. Time and again, this rogue federal agency has sought to use state and local government as their lackeys. Keeping New Yorkers safe requires stopping that collusion in all its forms—half-measures simply aren’t enough.

“Letting law enforcement hand New Yorkers over to ICE merely because they suspect unsubstantiated ‘probable cause’ means putting countless people at risk of deportation for crimes they didn’t commit. This approach—probable cause without due process—will continue to endanger immigrants and people who ‘look like’ immigrants alike. It’s an abandonment of the democratic values we’ve fought so hard to protect.”

“Our New York for All Act would ban all collusion with ICE and truly protect New Yorkers’ civil rights, including due process. It would safeguard innocent people from slipping through the cracks, and it’s the only legislative response that meets this moment with the urgency it requires. The cost of delay is too high. The time to pass it is now.”
