Digital & Communications Aide
New York State Senator Andrew Gounardes has an immediate opening for a Digital & Communications Aide based in Brooklyn, NY.
This role will support the Communications Director by creating content (social, videos, graphic content), managing social media, assisting with press events, drafting quotes and press releases. Key duties involve drafting, editing, tracking, and organizing communications across various social media platforms, often using tools like Canva. The aide will assist in crafting messages, managing digital content, and ensuring consistent, timely communication with constituents and the press.
As with everyone on staff, they will also be available to assist constituents. This person will act as a liaison between members of the community, city agencies, and the Senator.
Key Responsibilities
Digital & Social Media
Assist in managing the Senator’s social media accounts (X, Facebook, Instagram)
Draft, edit, schedule, and format social media posts and videos aligned with the Senator’s priorities
Create graphics and digital content for use across platforms
Communications & Media Support
Assist in drafting press releases, media advisories, talking points, and official statements
Help monitor media coverage and compile daily or weekly press clips
Support responses to press inquiries under the direction of senior staff
Maintain and update media contact lists
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have strong written and interpersonal skills, an interest in public service, and a creative approach to digital storytelling. Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation is essential.
Salary
Salary starting at $55,000. The position comes with an excellent benefits package including health, dental, optical, and retirement benefits.
