Sen. Gounardes: Big Tech’s Legal Losses Are a Win for Families

New York State Senator Andrew Gounardes issued the following statement today in response to two separate legal rulings that Meta put children’s safety and mental health at risk:

“Multiple judges have made their verdict clear: Meta is putting kids' health and safety at risk. The truth is that Big Tech has always known about this crisis, but chose to look the other way for the sake of their profits.

“That's why I fought to pass legislation like my SAFE For Kids Act and New York Child Data Protection Act—because if Big Tech won’t put kids’ safety first, we must. But our work is not over. My Stop Online Predators Act can help protect kids from exploitation online and hold tech companies accountable. 

“When Big Tobacco was putting kids’ health at risk, we took action. This is no different. We owe it to our children to act now.”
