Sen. Gounardes Celebrates Progress Toward Approval of Brooklyn Marine Terminal Project

Proposal would save crumbling Brooklyn port while building new parks, industrial space and thousands of affordable homes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 18, 2025

New York State Senator Andrew Gounardes, Vice Chair of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal Task Force, issued the following statement in response to reporting that additional Task Force members have voiced support for the redevelopment proposal:

“I’m thrilled the Task Force is coalescing around our shared vision for a plan to save Brooklyn’s working waterfront. This is a complex project with a lot of different stakeholders, and from the start, I’ve pushed for an open, collaborative process that ensures everyone’s voices are heard.

“The proposal we’ve crafted reflects the many good ideas and difficult decisions generated by that process. For decades, the Brooklyn Marine Terminal has been allowed to decay and become a barrier between our communities and the waterfront. Now, we have a unique chance to transform the terminal into something that actually meets our needs: a mixed-use neighborhood with a modernized port, new parks, industrial and community space and thousands of new affordable homes.

“The vision we’ve crafted is the best way to meet those needs, and these new components make the proposal even stronger. If we’re serious about creating a city that works for all of us, we need to actually get things done. This plan is an important step in doing just that.”
